You will never need to buy a frozen burger again. The inspiration for this recipe comes from our good friend Nidhi. We recall her mother making home-made burgers at a barbeque about 8 years ago. After our first bite we wondered why we had never attempted to make these. We’re sure you’ll wonder the same.

  • 6 whole grain buns
Toppings (optional)
  • 1 bell pepper (large)
  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 onion (small)
  • 5 mushrooms
  • 6 slices cheese
  • 1 tomato
  • 6 leaves lettuce
Servings: Burgers
Instructions
Burgers
  1. Dice onion and chop cilantro/parsley and add to a large bowl
  2. Toast 1 slice of whole grain bread. Crumble toast as finely as possible into bowl with onions and cilantro
  3. Add pepper, oregano, basil, salt, chili flakes and granulated garlic to bowl
  4. Pre-heat grill to med-high heat. If you do not have a grill, you can use the barbeque or a pan with 1 tsp canola oil on the stove-top at med-high heat.
  5. Add egg and ground turkey to bowl and incorporate all ingredients
  6. Form 6 evenly sized burgers with your hands
  7. Grill burgers for 6 minutes. Then flip and grill for another 6 minutes on alternate side or until internal temperature of 165 degrees F
  8. Place on whole grain bun with the toppings of your choice
Toppings (optional)
  1. Slice onion, pepper, zucchini, mushrooms to similar thickness. Slice cheese and tomato. Wash lettuce leaves
  2. Grill onion, pepper, zucchini, mushrooms approximately 10 minutes or until browned and softened. Flip once in between for grill marks on both side of vegetables
  3. Place toppings on plate and allow assembly of burgers as desired
Recipe Notes

If burger ingredients do not bind together easily, an additional egg can be used.
Burgers can be refrigerated or even frozen for later use after grilling.
